obama by two, 49%/47%. "the new york times" this weekend reported on the two campaigns' ongoing debate preps. here is what they said about romney's prep. quote, mr. romney's team has concluded that the debates are about creating moments and has equipped him with a series of zingers he's memorized and has been practicing on aides since august. bob shrum, you have been on that particular role, preparing candidates for debate. what do you make of romney, a rather stiff customer to begin with, coming off as sort of a henny youngman or whatever, some sort of a don rickles with some zingers. i don't think of him as a zinger kind of guy where obama is expected to be left helpless. what do you make of that strategy? >> first of all, if you had it, you wouldn't announce it. it's kind of stupid. >> why are they leaking it? >> i don't know. because they're trying to hold onto their people, they're undisciplined, i have no idea. number two, zingers don't exist in a vacuum. it's not just coming up with some funny lines.

obama made news as well. joining us to talk about it, paul begala, advising the leading pro-obama super pac. paul, even though it seems like romney has pretty much been all over the map when it comes to people without insurance in turning to the emergency room for basic care, does a flip-flop or change in position on an issue like this really resonate with voters? >> i actually have never been one as a democratic strategist and i advise the super pac that's trying to defeat governor romney and re-elect the president so i have a dog in this hunt. we never attacked him for the flip-flopping not because we think he's not but it's more important to show the damage he would do to the middle class. that's the problem here. once again he seemed to be really out of touch, really callous about people who don't have health insurance, who might have a heart attack and die. he says well, they don't die in their apartment. actually, they do sometimes, governor. there was a harvard study that said 40,000 americans a year d

it voted for obama barely in 2008. the republicans see an opportunity to peel away the margins and perhaps put that part of the state into the red column. if they're successful in doing that, it pares down the 4% margin that obama won by four years ago in ohio. that's why we see ads like that, and whether they're effective or not, we have to wait and see. >> thank you very much. greatly appreciate it, henry. it's the next major highlight in the presidential race. the first debate between president obama and mitt romney nine days away in colorado. we have a preview some are saying of the first debate via the "60 minutes" interview. first of all, taxes. >> the current rates less 20%. so the top rate would go from 35 to 28, middle rates by 20% as well. all the rates come down. >> the problem governor romney has is he seems to only have one note. tax cuts for the wealthy, and rolling back regulations as a recipe for success. >> what about the issue of the deficit? >> i'm going to look at every federal program and ask this
